The Owner and Instructor

Ray has a long history of working in the field of fall protection.
Since starting at the Ontario Hydro Research Division in Toronto in 1979, Ray acquired extensive experience and knowledge in the use, testing and development of fall protection devices and systems. Ray has worked with all the major North American manufacturers of fall protection equipment (FPE), as well as organizations such as the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and the Ontario Ministry of Labour. Ray has developed some of the procedures that are currently used by the CSA. 

Significant accomplishments and achievements: 

  • Took part in the investigation of falling accidents, including several fatal fall investigations, for both Ontario Power Generation (OPG - formerly Ontario Hydro) and with Human Resources Development Canada. 

  • As a trainer, developed an Ontario Hydro in-house training program for the maintenance of self-retracting lifeline devices after having received training from the major manufacturers of these devices. 

  • Working with Andrew Sulowski at Ontario Hydro, Ray delivered Fall Protection Seminars and
    co-developed/delivered the Qualified Inspector of Fall Protection Equipment seminar in 1997. 

  • While working as a safety trainer at OPG/Ontario Hydro, Ray delivered over 1000 courses in a variety of safety related subjects such as Confined Spaces, Lift Truck, Propane Handling, Elevating Platforms, Work Protection,
    and of course his specialty, Fall Protection.

  • Authored and co-authored numerous reports and articles about fall protection equipment and systems. 

  • Had articles published in Occupational Health and Safety Canada – Buyer’s Guide for two years in a row  

  • Presented a paper on Maintenance of Retractable Lifelines at the 1992 Conference of Protective Equipment in Ottawa, ON. 

  • Played a key role in the development of other fall protection products currently on the market such as harnesses for women and wood pole-climbing devices. 

  • Co-inventor/patent-holder of the ANRAY Horizontal Lifeline Energy Absorber, the first of its kind globally.

  • Won the 1991 New Business Ventures Excellence Team Award from Ontario Hydro in recognition of his involvement of the commercialization of new products in the fall protection trade (ANRAY Energy Absorber). 

 

Ray has ‘watched’ fall protection evolve in the workplace from days where it was virtually non-existent, to today where it has become widely mandated and accepted. He has a passionate
commitment to quality and safety, and maintains a high personal
integrity and business conduct.
